Virtual Car Tutorials: Airbrushed Graphics

Program: This tutorial works with Adobe Photoshop - please note that some of the menu structures may vary from version to version.

The first step, of course, is to load up the car you wish to add your airbrushed art to. The weapon of choice for this tutorial is an Infinity G35.

Get your ass onto www.google.com and image search for large picture of whatever you want to be brushed down the side of your car.

It’s best if it’s a cartoon picture or something along those lines, so look for something like: Anime Girls (watch out for porn!), Magna (again, watch out for porn!), Dragons, Fantasy, Japanese symbols etc. You even have another car on the side.. whatever you decide to use, ensure that it’s nothing tacky!

I went against my own advice… and found a lovely* anime angel…

Hit Ctrl+T and then use the grab handles to flip, skew and change the shape of it to fit in with the car. Once you happy with it’s positioning hit the enter key!

In this case, I have flip it over (so that it is in the same direction of the car) and turned it slightly anti-clockwise.

OK.. head for the layers box (lower right of the screen).. Ok, go down the list and pick yourself the layer style you prefer. (says normal on the example on the left). In this case, I selected “linear burn”, but as mentioned, it dependant upon your personal preference, the colour of car and the image that you are adding!

These layer styles help it to blend in with the bodywork better and remove any large white or black portions.

If you have trouble removing all of the colours, use the lasso tool and delete key to remove the bits not required. The eraser tool is also a cool bit of kit. Use it to blend the ‘brushing into the paintwork, or another picture.

Whilst you are at this box, lower the opacity to about 80%.

Hope I am making sense to you..

and that’s it, complete!
