Photoshop Tutorial: Frozen Text

In this tutorial i’ll teach you how to make a frozen effect in text.

step 1

Create a 200*200 new file and fill it with black.

step 2

Now choose a messy font and write one letter or a word. I chose the letter “V”.
You can also brush it a little in a new layer if you wish.

step 3

Now merge the two layers. Apply the Crystallize effect (Filter > Pixelate > Crystallize). The amount will depend on your font, i applied a cell size of 6.

step 4

Apply some noise to the picture. (Filter > Noise > Add Noise)
The amount will also depend on your picture, add an amount between 10%-20%. Choose the “Uniform” and select the “Monochromatic” option.

step 5

Now add some Gaussian Blur (Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blue) with a radius of 1.

step 6

Rotate the picture 90ºCW (Image > Rotate Canvas) and apply some wind (Filter >Stylize > Wind):

step 7

Let’s rotate back to the original position, 90ºCCW. (Image > Rotate Canvas)

step 8

It’s nearly done!
Now let’s add some color. Create a new layer and fill it with the color you desire then change the blending to “Color”.

step 9

Ok we are done.

Now if you want it to look even better you can also add some Plastic effect (Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap). I added the following amounts:

step 10

And to finally end :P
Add some levels and britghtness if you wish! It’s up to you ^^
